Timothy Richards

Tenor

“The critically acclaimed Welsh tenor Timothy Richards is now recognized as one of Europe’s leading lirico/spinto tenors.”

He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music Manchester in the UK and as a student won the Towyn Roberts Scholarship at the Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales, one of his country’s most prestigious singing competitions.
Soon after graduating Timothy made his professional operatic debut in 1998 as Alfredo in La Traviata for Welsh National Opera; this quickly lead to invitations to perform in Basel, Innsbruck and Oslo. After these early successes he found himself in demand to sing the leading lirico/spinto tenor roles in many of Europe’s great opera houses.
His engagement as The Italian Tenor in Der Rosenkavalier at the Semperoper Dresden in 1999 marked the beginning of a long and successful association with the opera house which included his debut as Rodolfo in La Bohème the following year to great critical acclaim. Since then Timothy Richards regularly appears at Semperoper Dresden, Staatsoper Berlin, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, National Opera Oslo, Royal Danish Opera Copenhagen, Grand Opera Poznan, Glyndebourne Oper, ENO London Colliseum, Komische Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Leipzig, Staatsoper Stuttgart, the Spoleto Festival in Italy,  Opernfestspiele St Margarethen in Austria and at many other opera houses and Festivals throughout Europe. In 2012 he had a notable success as Don Jose in Bizet’s Carmen at the Opernfestspeile St Margarethen, Austria.

Timothy continues to sing all over Germany and most recently has been engaged to sing in Russia, Japan and Austria where he made his debut singing at the Musikverein in Vienna.

Future engagements for 2021/22 season include his debut as Calaf in Puccini‘s Turandot in Theater Aachen. He will also be guest soloist at the Spectacular Classics concert in the Mayflower Theater Southampton, The Last Night of the Autumn Proms at Cliffs Pavillion Southend On Sea, New Year’s Eve Gala at the Barbican Centre London and New Year’s Day Gala at the Symphony Hall Birmingham.
