Anna Danik

Mezzo-Sopran

Anna Danik – Mezzo-Soprano
Finnish mezzo-soprano Anna Danik is one of the most versatile and compelling voices on the international opera stage today.
She has performed with leading opera houses and festivals including the Zurich Opera, Berlin Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Bregenz Festival, Hangzhou Grand Theater, Royal Danish Opera, Finnish National Opera, and Bolshoi Theatre. She has appeared under the baton of esteemed conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Markus Stenz, Gianandrea Noseda, Christoph von Dohnányi, Asher Fisch, Leif Segerstam, and Aleksandr Vedernikov.
Renowned for her powerful interpretations in the dramatic mezzo-soprano repertoire, Danik has become particularly recognized for her performances in Wagnerian roles. In November 2025, she returns to the Hangzhou to perform both Waltraute and the First Norn in Götterdämmerung, conducted by Markus Stenz.
Her recent recordings include Erda in the Ring Cycle with Zurich Opera (Naxos), and an upcoming DVD release of La Sphinge in Enescu’s Oedipe, captured at the Bregenz Festival in summer 2025.
In addition to Wagner, Danik has garnered acclaim for her interpretation of Amneris (Aida), a role she has performed at Theater Ulm, Finnish National Opera, Savonlinna Opera Festival, and Latvian National Opera. Critics praised her portrayal:
“The Finnish mezzo-soprano Anna Danik gives such gripping expression to the inner conflict of Amneris that one quickly forgets the ‘evil queen’ cliché. Anna Danik as Amneris is magnificent.”
Other notable roles include her 2024 debut as Madame de Croissy (Dialogues des Carmélites) at the Finnish National Opera, the Merchant’s Wife in Aulis Sallinen’s The Horseman in Helsinki (2025), and a much-acclaimed Klytämnestra in Elektra at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe (2019).
Her Klytämnestra drew particular critics from Online Merker:
“Her mezzo-soprano, rich and resonant across all registers, was a soothing presence and a rare treat. It is seldom that one hears a Klytämnestra in full command of such a focused, intact, and colorful voice. Anna Danik impressed with a superbly cultivated vocal line, excellent diction, and warm, room-filling tone.”
In addition to her operatic work, Danik is an active concert artist. Her concert repertoire includes such highlights as Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder, Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder, and Stravinsky’s Les Noces.
