Inho Jeong, bass, has emerged as a rising star on the international opera stage with his remarkable achievements in 2023. He won the 2nd Prize and a Special Prize at the ‘Tchaikovsky International Competition’, as well as the 5th Prize at the ‘Queen Elisabeth Competition’. Since making his European debut in a leading role during the 2022/23 season, he continues to captivate audiences worldwide with his powerful voice and commanding presence.
In 2022, he won 1st Prize at the ‘Riccardo Zandonai Competition’ in Italy, the ‘Ferruccio Tagliavini Competition’, the ‘Otto Edelmann Competition’ in Austria, and the ‘Marmande Competition’ in France. He also earned 2nd Prize at the ‘Lousada Competition’ in Portugal, 3rd prize and a special award at the ‘Éva Marton International Competition’ in Hungary, and Special prize at both the ‘Viñas Competition’ in Spain and the ‘Competizione dell’Opera’ in Russia.
He graduated with distinction from the ‘Seoul National University College of Music’ and worked as a member of the ‘Korea National Opera Studio’ in 2022. Early in his career, he received numerous awards at competitions such as the ‘Dong-A Music Competition’, the ‘Korea Singers Association International Competition’ and the ‘Daegu International Voice Competition’, establishing himself as one of Korea’s most promising young talents.
During the 2022/23 season, he made his debut as ‘Conte Walter’ in ‘Luisa Miller’ at the ‘Gärtnerplatz Theater’ in Munich. He then debuted as ‘Chub’ in ‘Christmas Eve’ at the ‘Oper Frankfurt’, and performed as ‘Arkel’ in ‘Pelléas et Mélisande’ and ‘La Voce’ in ‘Idomeneo’ at the ‘Opera Royal de Wallonie-Liège’ in Belgium. Also, he performed ‘Nabucco’ with Placido Domingo at the ‘Salle Gaveau’ hall in Paris, made his debut at the ‘Aix-en-Provence Festival’ in France as ‘Lo zio Bonzo’ of ‘Madama Butterfly’, and later that year made his debut as Colline in ‘La Bohème’ at the ‘Seoul Metropolitan Opera’ in Korea.
In the 2024/25 season, he reprised ‘Chub’ in ‘Christmas Eve’ at Oper Frankfurt, made his house debut as ‘Lo zio Bonzo’ in ‘Madama Butterfly’ at the ‘Opéra National de Lyon’, and returned to the ‘Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège’ for his role debut as ‘Gessler’ in ‘Guillaume Tell’. He concluded the season with performances of ‘Mozart’s Requiem’ at the ‘Chorégies d’Orange’, ‘Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9’ at the ‘Salle Gaveau’ in Paris, and both works at the ‘Lotte Concert Hall’ in Korea. His upcoming new roles include ‘Varlaam’ in ‘Boris Godunov’ and ‘Timur’ in ‘Turandot’ at ‘Oper Frankfurt’, as well as ‘Ramfis’ in ‘Aida’ at the ‘Teatro de la Maestranza’ in Seville, Spain
