Biographie / biography

Hector Sandoval started his career in his native city Mexico. Fascinated by the world of theatre and opera he took lessons at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City from 1987-1993. His teacher was the well-known professor Enrique Jaso.

His engagements in 2023 include Radames in Aida at Theater Chemnitz, Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana at the Isreali Opera and Carlo VII in Giovanna d’Arco at Operfestspiele Heidenheim.

Recent engagements include Tosca at Osterfestspiele Salzburg with Maestro Thielemann and in Cardiff, Gabriele/Adorno in Simon Boccanegra at Opèra de Toulon, and Tel Aviv, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with which he debuted at The Royal Opera in Copenhagen, his debut as Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut at La Monnaie de Bruxelles with Carlo Rizzi, Un Ballo in Maschera with Nello Santi, two concerts in Stockholm with Jussi Björling Selskapet and in Finland at Turku Music Festival, special guest at the Birgit Nilsson Gala, Don Carlo at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Manrico in Il Trovatore in Tokyo, Il Tabarro at the Finnish National Opera Helsinki and Oper Köln, also at Salzburger Festspiele, Bregenzer Festspiele and many others.
Furthermore Cavardossi in Mexiko, Andrea Chenier and Cavardossi at Prague National Theatre, Rigoletto at the Latvian National Opera in Riga, Pollione Staatstheater Kassel and Tel Aviv Opera as well as Enzo in Gioconda at Malmö Opera.

He has also performed: Andrea Chenier at Bregenzer Festspiele, a concert at Alte Oper - Frankfurt, Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera at Theater St. Gallen, Radames in Aida in Modena, Reggio Emilia, Italy, and Wiener Staatsoper (with great success), Riccardo in Modena, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at Teatro La Maestranza de Sevilla and the Copenhagen Royal Opera and Luigi in Il tabarro at Oper Köln.

Mr. Sandoval’s engagements have taken him to all the important opera houses in Europe, the United States and Latin America such as Wiener Staatsoper, Semperoper Dresden, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Opernhaus Zürich, Luzern, Theater St. Gallen, Bolshoi Theater, Colon de Buenos Aires, Teatro Regio di Parma, La Monnaie , Washington Opera, Opera Mexico and many others.


Mr. Sandoval travelled to Europe in 1994, where he studied at Hochschule für Darstellende Kunst in Vienna. He also completed many master classes and took the opportunity to study his repertoire with several famous singers such as Placido Domingo, Ileana Cotrubas, Walter Berry, Luigi Alva, Christ Merrit, Ghena Dimitrova, G. Hornik, Toma Popescu, Nico Castel, J. Dornemann, Istvan Serjan and Julius Kalmar. Additionally he worked on his vocal technique with Francisco Araiza.

As a result of positive reviews and several awards, Hector Sandoval became Singer of The Year in 2001 and 2003. In 2001 he also won the International Singing Competition of Kammeroper Rheinsberg.
Hector Sandoval was also successful in musical recordings. In 1998 he won a special prize at Festival Victoria Reggia during a radio- and television recording.
