Attilio Cremonesi studied at the Nicolini Music Conservatory in Piacenza and at the Schola Cantorum in Basel. Winner of several international competitions, he was for many years musical assistant to René Jacobs in opera and oratorio productions, accompanying him in numerous recitals.

In addition to his activity as harpsichordist and fortepiano soloist, he dedicated himself to the discovery and performance of rare Baroque and Classical operas. He founded the Ensemble Arcadia, with whom he appeared in the most important concert halls and festivals of Europe and South America.

He conducted staged operas and concerts at the theatres of Basel, Berlin (Staatsoper unter den Linden and Hebbel Theater), Braunschweig, Innsbruck, Lausanne, Lucerne and the festivals of Curitiba (Brazil), Innsbruck (Festwochen der alten Musik), Dresdner Mai Musikfestspiele, Fez and Lörrach (Germany). He also collaborates with the Cetra Barockorchester Basel, Collegium Vocale Gent and Kammerorchester Basel.

His successful collaborations include: Handel's Rodelinda at Den Norske Opera in Oslo; Les Larmes du ciel in collaboration with choreographer J. Schloemer at the Wiener Festwochen in 2003, production recently named one of Europe’s most interesting musical and dancing creations; Rameau's Dardanus at the Bonn Opera; Sartorio's Giulio Cesare in Egitto at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der alten Musik; Rossini's La Scala di Seta in a tour with the Freiburger Barockorchester; L'Ape Musicale (a unique anthology of Da Ponte's arias) at the Pergolesi Festival in Jesi; Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine and Paisiello's La Serva Padrona with the Cetra Barockorchester Basel at the Théâtre de Poissy; Monteverdi's Il Ritorno di Ulisse in Patria at the Grand Théâtre de Génève; Purcell's Dido and Aeneas staged and choreographed by Sasha Waltz and with the Akademie für Alte Musik in 2006, an outstanding co-production of the opera houses of Luxemburg, Montpellier, Berlin, Amsterdam, Ferrara and St.Pölten; L'Incoronazione di Poppea at the Grand Théâtre de Génève, Caen and St. Pölten; Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Lucerne, Freiburg and St. Pölten; and Vivaldi's Juditha Triumphans at the Pinchgut Opera in Sidney.

Mr. Cremonesi’s recently performed: Così Fan Tutte at the De Vlaamse Opera in Antwerpen; a new production of Handel's Ezio at the Schwetzinger Festspiele (Stuttgart) and subsequently on a European tour with Kammerorchester Basel in Montpellier (Festival de Radio France), Paris (Théâtre des Champs Elysées), Herne and Vienna (Theater an der Wien); Dido and Aeneas produced by Saburo Teshigawara and a series of Christmas concerts with the Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice in Venice; a concert tour in Holland with the The Netherlands Bach Society; concerts with Vivica Genaux and Café Zimmermann and Kammerochester Basel; Così fan tutte at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse; and Hasse's Romolo ed Ersilia at the Innsbrucker Festwochen.

His upcoming engagements include Bach's Johannes-Passion in a semi-staged production with the Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble in Freiburg and Don Giovanniin Toulouse.

Among his vast discography, quite a few recordings were awarded the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis der Kritik, Choc de la Musique, Diapason d'Or, Caecilian and Repertoire prizes. He recently recorded Paisiello's La Serva Padrona with La Cetra, Cinzia Forte and Antonio Abete. ABC Classics just released the live recording of Juditha Triumphans with the Pinchgut Opera Company and Orchestra of the Antipodes (period instruments).
