Biographie / biography

Guenes Guerle was born in Izmir( Smyrna), a city surrounded by Roman theatres.
Started his music education playing classical guitar in 1989. Then had the opportunity
of studying in Istanbul under the guidance of Turkey's opera pioneers Mr Aydin Gün
and Mrs. Azra Gün. After graduation, continued his studies with Prof. Güzin Gürel.

The first achievement in his career was the jury award in the international Leyla
Gencer competition, 1997, which led to an invitation to Bologna teatro comunale to
cover M. Pertusi for Don Giovanni in Gatti/de Bosio production. He did attend few
successful competitions including the finals of Toti dal Monte, Treviso 2003 and
Hans Gabor Belvedere, Vienna 2004.

Later "Giovanni" became one of his favorite roles which he played in Istanbul 2002,
Düsseldorf 2005, Bern 2011, for good 15 years till he had the chance of playing
Leporello in 2013, Düsseldorf.

Guenes Guerle is ensemble member of Deutsche Oper am Rhein since 2005. In
Düsseldorf 2015/16, repeating his roles; Leporello and Dulcamara.

Guenes Guerle was guesting next, in Grand Théâtre de Genève in June 2015 with
new production of Beethoven's Fidelio (regie: Matthias Hartmann), Don Fernando
again in Grand Théatre de Genève in October 2015, a Concert version of Les
Troyens under Charles Dutoit with London Royal Philharmonic , Narbal

In May 2016 he was in Oslo, Den Norske Opera with Puccini's
Turandot (regie:Andreas Homoki), Timur

During the 2016/17 season at Oper am Rhein, he sang Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore), the bass also (Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, choreographed by Martin Schläpfer) and Timur (Turandot).

In January 2017, he appeared as Besso in Cavalli’s Giasone at Grand Theatre de Geneve once again.

Düsseldorf’s 2017/18 season began with Jean Pierre Ponnelle’s legendary Cenerentola (1974) in which he sang Don Magnifico, ends with Villazon’s new production of Don Pasquale in which he will be singing Pasquale.

In March 2018, he made his debut at Opera Royal de Versailles with Besso in Cavalli’s Il Giasone.

In April 2018, another debut at Theater an der Wien with Theseus in britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Manacorda/Michieletto).

In November 2018, will be singing Dulcamara in Oliver Mears’ production of L’elisir d’amore, back in Oslo, den Norske Opera.

In February 2019, The Father, Florio in Anno Schreier’s opera based on John Ford’s play “this pity she’s a whore”, a world premiere in Düsseldorf.

In June 2019, guesting in his second house Grand Theatre de Geneve as Comte Ribbing in Verdi’s Ballo in Maschera (Steinberg/Del Monaco).

October 2019 and January 2020, return to Oslo, den Norske Opera, as Sparafucile in Rigoletto.

Roles in 2022 include Sprecher / Zweiter Geharnischter in Die Zauberflöte and Dulcamara in Elisr d'Amore at Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf.

Other roles with which he has enjoyed great success in Düsseldorf have included Cesare (Giulio Cesare in Egitto), Don Alfonso (Costi fan tutte), Figaro (Nozze die Figaro), Selim (Turco in Italia), Pollux (Castor et Pollux, best male opera singer award 2013 by Andante), Oroveso (Norma), Colline (La Boheme), Swallow (Peter Grimes).
