Stefan Cerny
studied opera, per, Lied und Oratorium as well as Musical, Operette und Chanson at the conservatory in his hometown of Vienna and graduated in 2004 with distinction.

In 2022 he will sing Bartolo in Le Nozze die Figaro at Volksoper Wien, Sparafucile in Rigoletto at Festival d'Opera Lyon.

He is regularly employed at all three opera houses in Vienna and has been closely associated with the Volksoper Wien since 2001, where he is currently once again a permanent member of the ensemble.

Guest appearances in recent years have taken him e.g. to the London Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Sarastro in The Magic Flute), to the Vienna State Opera (Rocco in Fidelio), the Theater an der Wien (including Wozzeck, Maria Stuarda, Euryanthe, Peter Grimes), the Cologne Opera (Fidelio), the Komische Oper Berlin (The Magic Flute) and the state theaters in Nuremberg and Munich (including Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail), further to the Bregenz Festival, to the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Salzburg "House for Mozart", the Neue Oper Wien, the Schauspielhaus Wien, on a tour of Japan/Tokyo, the Dresden Philharmonic, the MC2 Grenoble, the opera festivals St. Margarethen and Jennersdorf, the Lech Classic Festival 2020, the Kameropera Festival Zwolle, the Festival Retz the Landestheater Linz, Salzburg and Klagenfurt as well as the Viennese Raimundtheater.

Stefan Cerny was awarded the Austrian Music Theater Prize 2019 for his portrayal of Doctor in Wozzeck at the Theater an der Wien. He is also a prizewinner of the "Vienna Fidelio Competition".

His artistic path has been shaped by collaborations with directors such as Christof Loy, Peter Konwitschny, Tobias scratches, Robert Carsen, Barrie Kosky, Josef E. Köpplinger, Harry Kupfer, as well as conductors Philippe Jordan, Antonio Pappano, Adam Fischer, Cornelius Meister and Thomas Hengelbrock etc m.

His repertoire includes i.a. Sarastro (The Magic Flute), Osmin (The Abduction from the Seraglio), Daland (The Flying Dutchman), Rocco (Fidelio), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Basilio (The Barber of Seville), Bartolo (The Wedding des Figaro), Talbot (Maria Stuarda), Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Timur (Turandot), Colline (La Bohème) and Swallow (Peter Grimes).
