Biographie / biography

Born in Trieste, Italy, he studied at Conservatorio of Trieste, and attended the masterclasses of J.Metternich in Vienna and Munich, then those of R.Guelfi in Rome.
He then kept studying with prof.Yoko Takeda.

In 1985, he makes his debut in Il Maestro di Cappella by Cimarosa in Trieste.
He featured later in La Notte, Pastiche di musiche mozartiane, at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto (1987)

In 1988 he attends the masterclasses on vocality in Mozart, held by Claudio Desderi at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, and is Guglielmo in “Così Fan Tutte” in Florence and Massa; in the same year, he sang in “Ariadne auf Naxos” and “Lustige Witwe” in Teatro Verdi, in Trieste.

In the following years, he sang in:
Parsifal (Teatro Verdi, Trieste); Don Giovanni (Britten Theatre, London; Teatro Verdi, in Pisa, Lucca, Florence); Evgenij Onegin (Teatro La Fenice, Venice); ); La Traviata (Trieste,Treviso ,Savona, Rijeka); La Bohème (Festival of Fermo ); Le Nozze di Figaro (Florence, Pisa); Les Contes d’Hoffmann ( Genova, Venice); Werther (Trieste); Fedora (Trieste, Treviso); L’Elisir d’Amore ( As.Li.Co., Pisa, Rijeka); La Scala di Seta , L’Occasione fa il Ladro (Arena Sferisterio di Macerata , Teatro Nazionale di Praga); Il Turco in Italia (Trieste,Bologna,Treviso,Pisa); La Santa di Blaker Street ( Teatro Bellini Catania); La Pietra del Paragone (Teatro Comunale di Modena); I Quattro Rusteghi ( Teatro la Fenice di Venice) Tristan und Isolde ( Trieste); Boris Godunov and Maria di Rohan ( Venice); Rigoletto (Arena Sferisterio of Macerata, Cagliari); Le Comte Ory ( Teatro dell’Opera in Rome) and in Das Rheingold as Alberich, in a contest for wagnerian direction, created by Theater Graz – with this interpretation, he was granted a stipendium by the Richard Wagner Verband for taking part to the Bayreuth Festival 1998.

Among the several dates: Carmen in Genova; Tosca in Trieste, La Pietra del Paragone at the Garsington Opera Festival, (UK); La Cenerentola in Udine and his debut in Trovatore and in Ballo in Maschera in Rijeka (HR); his debut in Paris in Il Turco in Italia.

Furthermore, he sang: in Bohème in Savona, and in Lucia di Lammermoor at Teatro Verdi in Pisa; at the Ravenna Festival and in Pavia, in Belle Hélène as Agamennone at the Operetta Festival of Trieste; as Paolo in Simone Boccanegra in Venice and in Japan with a tournée of Teatro La Fenice of Venice, and as Herrufer in Lohengrin in Turin.

He interpreted Tonio in Pagliacci at Teatro Filarmonico of Verona; he took part to a new production of Il Turco in Italia in Zurich, together with Cecilia Bartoli (available in DVD); he interpreted Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at Teatro alla Scala.

He sang in I Quattro Rusteghi in Zurich and again at La Scala he took part to the world première of Il Processo and in 2003 in Don Quichotte in Turin in a production by Piero Faggioni. He interpreted then Falstaff in Rijeka and Bohème in Verona and for the tournée of Teatro Massimo Bellini of Catania. He took part then to Oceana in Zagreb and Nabucco in Rijeka.

In 2004: Traviata in Cagliari, Bohème in Turin .

In 2005 he is Falstaff in Salzburg and Zurich and he is again Conte di Luna in Trovatore in Rijeka.He then makes his debut as Dulcamara in Elisir d’Amore at Teatro del Liceu of Barcelona; he interprets the same role at the prestigious Savonlinna Festival in Finland, then he is again in Forza del Destino in Zurich and Rovigo, Modena and Ravenna.

In 2006, he is Don Quichotte in Trieste; he sings Il Turco in Italia in Ljubljana and at the Opera of Rome; he takes part to Il Segreto di Susanna and he is Falstaff again in Zurich and Pisa.

In 2007, he takes part to L’Italiana in Algeri; he is again Falstaff in Teatro Comunale di Bologna, under the conduction of James Conlon; he sings in Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Zurich, and Bohème in Tokyo.

In 2008, he is again in La Forza del Destino in Tel Aviv. I Quattro Rusteghi in Toulouse, Roberto Devereux and La Rondine in Trieste. He sings again Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at the Aphrodite Festival in Cyprus. He then takes part to Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Salzburg.

In 2009, he sing Aida in Trieste and Madama Butterfly in Seoul, La Fille du Régiment again in Trieste; Cavalleria Rusticana in Milan and Traviata . He then starts a new production of Il Turco in Italia in Leipzig.

In 2010, he is in Elisir d’Amore, Madama Butterfly, Otello in Trieste and at the Split Festival. He sings in Aida for the Japanese radio NJK in Tokyo.
He has recently sung again Il Turco in Italia in Leipzig and Zurich; Don Quichotte in Cagliari and in Amico Fritz in Trieste.

He has recently made a successful debut at Wien Staatsoper in Elisir d’Amore and sang in La Wally in Sankt Gallen

In 2013, he was the titelrole in Simon Boccanegra in Tokyo and Barnaba in Gioconda in Sankt Gallen, and Fanciulla del West e Cenerentola at Wiener Staatsoper.

As a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera he sang among other things: Rigoletto, Aida, Traviata, Falstaff, Ballo in Maschera, Roberto Devereux, Elisir D’amore, Cenerentola, Italiana in Algeri
In 2016 he sang in Hannover in Rigoletto and at the Salzburg Festival in Faust.
Recently: still Renato in Ballo in Maschera in Chemnitz and Rigoletto at the Wiener Staatsoper.
