Biographie / biography
In 1998 got MA level on philology in Yaroslavl State Ushinsky University, Russia.
In 2004 he graduated from Saint-Petersburg State Conservatoire, Russia as an opera soloist.
First debuted on the stage of Saint-Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Opera in 2002 in the part of Onegin (Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin”). Also performed the parts of George Germont (Verdi’s “La Traviata”), Robert (Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta”), Eneas (Percell’s “Dido and Eneas”), Karenin (Uspensky’s “Anna Karenina”).
In 2003 he won the second prize at The Open Allrussian Competition of the Opera Singers “Saint-Petersburg”. In 2004 got diploma and special prize at The Second Open Allrussian Competition “Three Centures of the Classical Romance”. In 2006 got The Government Prize of Saint-Petersburg for the part of Edvin in Kalman’s “Sylva”. In 2014 got “The Golden Sofit” Prize for the part of Gryaznoy in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Tsar’s Bride”.
Took part in master-classes of Vladimir Chernov, Elena Obraztsova, Neil Shikoff, Mati Palm, Paolo di Napoli, Marcello Giordani, Richard Barker.
Now is a soloist of The Mikhailovsky Theatre (Saint-Petersburg). Debuted in it in 2004 in the part of Figaro (Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia”), also performed there Eisenstein from “Die Fledermaus”, Onegin (“Eugene Onegin”), Yeletsky (“The Queen of Spades”), Robert, Ebn-Hakia (“Iolanta”), Scarpia (“Tosca”) and others. In 2007 was on tour in Japan with the theatre perfoming Escamillo (“Carmen”).
In 2011 took part in the first performance in Russia of “L'Enfance du Christ” by Berlioz as Josef.
In 2013 took part in the first performance in Russia of “Billy Budd” by Britten as Mr. Redburn.
In 2014 as Lescaut took part in co-production of Mikhailovsky Theatre and Staatsoper Berlin of Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut”, directed by Jurgen Flimm.
In 2015 participated in recitals with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, dubuted in the role of Holländer in Wagner’s “ Der fliegende Holländer” and took part as Myzgir in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Snowmaiden”, conducted by Dmitry Yurovsky.
In 2016 appeared as special guest in the role of Boris in “Groza” production in Tovstonogov Russian State Academic Bolshoi Drama Theatre. Took part as Schaunard in “La Boheme” in new production in Mikhailovsky Theatre.
In 2017 as Figaro took part in new production of “Le Nozze di Figaro” by Mozart in Mikhailovsky Theatre.
He also continued at the Mikhailovsky Theatre as Tonio (Pagliacci), Scarpia (Tosca), Lescaut (Manon Lescaut), Tomsky, Yeletsky (The Queen of Spades), Datchman (Fliegende Hollender), Shaunard (La Boheme), Renato (Un Ballo in Maschera). In November 2017 appeared as Onegin in “Boldino autumn” festival.
Alexander Kuznetsov also took part in various festivals in Russia – as for example “Boldino autumn”, “Art’s Square”, “Winter Evenings”.
In 2022 he will sing Renato (Ballo in Maschera) and Tomsky (The Queen of Spades) at the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
