Biographie / biography
Tomas Juhas portrayed in Bratislava the roles of Kudryash and Boris in Leoš Janáček’s opera Katya Kabanova, in which he also performed as a guest at the National Theatre Opera in Brno. He then appeared in Giuseppe Verdi’s operas Macbeth (Malcolm), Nabucco (Ismael) and La traviata (Alfredo), Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore (Nemorino), Puccini’s La bohème (Rodolfo) and Tchaikovsky´s Eugene Onegin (Lenski).
In 2022 he will sing the Prince in Rusalka and Ovcak Jirka in Cert a Kaca at the Slovak National Theatre.
He performed in Janáček’s opera From the House of the Dead (Cherevin) at L’Opéra Bastille in Paris and Teatro Real in Madrid. At the National Theatre in Prague he sang in La traviata (Alfredo). At the summer Classic Openair festival in Solothurn, Switzerland, he introduced himself in the operas Turandot (Pong) and Pagliacci (Peppe). He has performed at concerts in the Netherlands and Switzerland, and in Vienna on the ORF radio station and at the Konzerthaus in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. He co-operated with conductors such as Marc Albrecht, Giorgio Crocci, Ondrej Lenárd, Jaroslav Kyzlink, Oliver Dohnányi or Rastislav Štúr.
In May 2011, he portrayed Jeník in a concert performance of Smetana’s The Bartered Bride with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Jiří Bělohlávek at London’s Barbican Hall. Harmonia Mundi’s CD release of it was nominated for the Opera Awards 2013. In 2011, he has also sung the tenor part in Dvořák’s Stabat Mater in Tokyo, appeared as Cassio (Verdi’s Othello) and Alfred (Strauss’s The Bat) at the Slovak National Theatre, and played Alfredo (Verdi’s La traviata), Boris (Janáček’s Káťa Kabanová) and Jeník (Smetana’s Bartered Bride) at the National Theatre in Prague. At the end of May this year he will appear in a production of Verdi’s Il Trovatore at the Wiener Festwochen festival (as Ruiz).
His debut CD featured a recording of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Chihiro Hayashi (Slovart Records).
