Biographie / biography

Born in Poland, Lukas Jakobski was a member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden from 2009 until 2011 where his roles included Pietro in Verdi Simon Boccanegra, Tall Englishman in Prokofiev The Gambler, King Aida and Angelotti Tosca.

Engagements since leaving the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme include Abbot (Curlew River) for Opéra de Lyon, Hobson (Peter Grimes), Quince (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), First Apprentice (Wozzeck) and Leuthold (Guillaume Tell) for Theater an der Wien, Hobson at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, Valencia, Enrico VIII (Anna Bolena) for Longborough Festival Opera, Commendatore (Don Giovanni) for Nederlandse Reisopera, Don Cassandro (La finta semplice) for Classical Opera, Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte) for Irish National Opera, Colline (La bohème) for Glyndebourne on Tour, Zbigniew (The Haunted Manor) for Polish National Opera, Cook (L’Amour des trois oranges) and Captain (Manon Lescaut) for Dutch National Opera and Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for Grange Park Opera.

Lukas has also appeared at Drottningholms Slottsteater singing Nettuno, Tempo and Antinoo; Don Basilio Il Barbiere di Siviglia for Grange Park Opera; Truffaldino Ariadne auf Naxos with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra; Polyphemus Acis and Galatea with Christian Curnyn at the Iford Festival and has toured in Britten Church Parables with Mahogany Opera, the Aurora Orchestra and Roger Vignoles including St Petersburg, Buxton Festival, Southwark Cathedral and Aldeburgh Festival after which Andrew Clements wrote in The Guardian: “The best of the singing, from Lukas Jakobski as the Abbot who summons the audience to watch his monks enact the drama, is imposingly fine.

Concerts include Panthée and Narbal in Berlioz Les Troyens with Valery Gergiev and Herald in Verdi Otello with Sir Colin Davis with the LSO; Pistola Falstaff with CBSO and Edward Gardner, and also with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Vladimir Jurowski; Stravinsky Pulcinella with the Ulster Orchestra and Mozart Requiem in Trondheim with Richard Egarr.
Lukas has also sung Nettuno, Tempo and Antinoo in Monteverdi Il ritorno d’Ulisse for the Academy of Ancient Music and Richard Egarr; Fairy Queen for Les Siècles and Pina Bausch Tanz Teater in Nîmew; Polyphemus at the London Handel Festival, conducted by Laurence Cummings; Messiah with the Irish Baroque Orchestra and the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, Finland and Solomon with the Kymi Sinfonietta;

Lukas began his musical training as a bassoonist before studying singing at the Academy of Music in Poznan. In 2004 he moved to London to study at the Royal College of Music with Graeme Broadbent and awards during this time include the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary and Concordia Serena Nevill Award.
