Born in Poland, Lukas Jakobski was a member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden from 2009 until 2011 where his roles included Pietro in Verdi Simon Boccanegra, Tall Englishman in Prokofiev The Gambler, King Aida and Angelotti Tosca.
Upcoming roles include Hobson in Peter Grimes at Teatr Wielki and 2. Soldat in Salom at the Irish National opera.
His roles in past seasons have included Leuthold in Guillaume Tell, Hobson in Peter Grimes and Quince in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Theater an der Wien, King Arthur with the Academy of Ancient Music and Richard Egarr; Comandante Manon Lescaut for Netherlands Opera; Commandatore Don Giovanni for Nederlandse Reisoper; Zbigniew in Moniusko Straszny Dwor for Polish National Opera .
Roles at The Royal Opera, Covent Garden have included Pistola Falstaff, Greek Captain Les Troyens and Don Profundo Il viaggio a Reims and for Glyndebourne on Tour, Colline La Bohème and Zuniga Carmen. Lukas’ regular appearances for Dutch National Opera include Tall Englishman The Gambler; roles in Verdi Macbeth and La Cuisinière in Prokofiev The Love for Three Oranges and for Opéra de Lyon Pietro Simon Boccanegra; Voice of Neptune Idomeneo and Abbot in Britten Curlew River. Recent highlights also include his debut at Theater an der Wien singing Hobson in Britten Peter Grimes.
Lukas has also appeared at Drottningholms Slottsteater singing Nettuno, Tempo and Antinoo; Don Basilio Il Barbiere di Siviglia for Grange Park Opera; Truffaldino Ariadne auf Naxos with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra; Polyphemus Acis and Galatea with Christian Curnyn at the Iford Festival and has toured in Britten Church Parables with Mahogany Opera, the Aurora Orchestra and Roger Vignoles including St Petersburg, Buxton Festival, Southwark Cathedral and Aldeburgh Festival after which Andrew Clements wrote in The Guardian: “The best of the singing, from Lukas Jakobski as the Abbot who summons the audience to watch his monks enact the drama, is imposingly fine.
Concerts include Panthée and Narbal in Berlioz Les Troyens with Valery Gergiev and Herald in Verdi Otello with Sir Colin Davis with the LSO; Pistola Falstaff with CBSO and Edward Gardner, and also with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Vladimir Jurowski; Stravinsky Pulcinella with the Ulster Orchestra and Mozart Requiem in Trondheim with Richard Egarr.
Lukas has also sung Nettuno, Tempo and Antinoo in Monteverdi Il ritorno d’Ulisse for the Academy of Ancient Music and Richard Egarr; Fairy Queen for Les Siècles and Pina Bausch Tanz Teater in Nîmew; Polyphemus at the London Handel Festival, conducted by Laurence Cummings; Messiah with the Irish Baroque Orchestra and the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, Finland and Solomon with the Kymi Sinfonietta;
Lukas began his musical training as a bassoonist before studying singing at the Academy of Music in Poznan. In 2004 he moved to London to study at the Royal College of Music with Graeme Broadbent and awards during this time include the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary and Concordia Serena Nevill Award.
