The internationally acclaimed Croatian soprano Lana Kos captivated audiences worldwide with her commanding stage presence, striking beauty, and an opulent voice spanning three octaves. A true operatic sensation, she made a stunning debut at just 17 years old as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and from then on, she conquered the world’s most prestigious stages.
Kos graced renowned opera houses, including Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova, Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, the Municipal Theatre of São Paulo in Brazil, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, and the Guangzhou Opera House. She was also a standout performer at legendary festivals such as Arena di Verona, Torre del Lago, the Savonlinna Festival in Finland, and the Macao International Music Festival.
During the 2023–2024 season, Kos shone in Manon Lescaut at Teatro Verdi di Trieste and Teatro Comunale di Bologna. Her 2024–2025 season engagements included highly anticipated performances as Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly at the Tokyo Spring Festival and as Desdemona in Otello at Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania. In the 2022–2023 season, she enchanted audiences in Il Trovatore at the Japan Opera Festival, La Traviata at Teatro Principal in Mallorca, and
Turandot (as Liù) at the Taormina Festival, while also taking on new challenge with her debut as Tosca.
Kos made history as the youngest soloist ever appointed at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, where she signed a four-year contract in 2006. During her tenure, she showcased her versatility across multiple languages and collaborated with some of the world’s most esteemed conductors, including Kirill Petrenko, Daniele Gatti, Kent Nagano, Marco Armiliato, Nicola Luisotti, James Conlon, Fabio Luisi, and Daniel Oren.
Her recent debuts include Aida, Andrea Chénier, Jenůfa, and Attila, all of which will be fully ready for performance later this season. She has also made acclaimed appearances at the Mariinsky Theatre, performing in Otello and Ernani, and at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires in Jenůfa, as well as in Verdi’s Requiem in Madrid. Looking ahead, her upcoming engagements include Otello and Ernani at the Bolshoi Theatre, and Otello at Teatro Bellini in Catania.
Her repertoire encompasses some of the most demanding and iconic soprano roles in the operatic canon. She has portrayed Giuseppe Verdi’s heroines, including Leonora in Il Trovatore, Luisa in Luisa Miller, Aida in Aida, Desdemona in Otello, Odabella in Attila, Elvira in Ernani, as well as the Soprano soloist in Messa da Requiem. From Giacomo Puccini, she has performed Magda in La Rondine, Liù in Turandot, Tosca in Tosca, Manon Lescaut in Manon Lescaut, Cio-Cio San in
Madama Butterfly, and Mimì in La Bohème. Her versatility extends to Georges Bizet, with Micaëla in Carmen, Umberto Giordano with Maddalena in Andrea Chénier, and Leoš Janáček with the title role in Jenůfa.
In the following years, Ms. Kos has been preparing to add to her repertoire roles such as Élisabeth de Valois (Don Carlo), Adriana Lecouvreur (Adriana Lecouvreur), Suor Angelica (Suor Angelica), Elisabeth (Tannhäuser), Salome (Salome), Margherita (Mefistofele), Leonora (La forza del destino) and Minnie (La Fanciulla del West).
