Biographie / biography

Born in Turin, she starts her musical studies first with piano and then with singing under soprano Elvina Ramella. In 1995 she wins the International “Pavarotti” Competition and the “Puccini” Competition.

She started her carrer with Mozart, singing Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (in Lecce directed by Daniele Abbado), Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro (at Teatro dell'Opera in Rome and in Sassari directed by Daniele Abbado) and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte (both in Sassari and at Comunale di Bologna conducted by M° Daniele Gatti). At Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova she sings the role of Micaela in Carmen directed by Hugo De Ana. This was followed by her debuts in Puccini's heroines: Mimì in La Bohème (at Teatro Verdi in Trieste conducted by M° Daniel Oren and at Teatro Massimo in Palermo), Cio-cio-san in Madama Butterfly (Teatro Regio in Turin, Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro La Maestranza in Seville, Teatro Regio in Parma) e Liù in Turandot (Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice).
She immediately shows her versatility as an artist singing such roles as: Blanche de la Force in Les dialogues des Carmelites (directed by Alberto Fassini)
 and Rosario in Goyescas at Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, 
 Der Zwerg, Il prigioniero and Edipo Re, Magda Sorel in The Consul at Teatro Regio in Turin, Job ed Il prigioniero at the Rome Opera, The Governess in The turn of the screw for Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari.
After a short incursion in belcanto repertoire (Adalgisa in Norma in Cosenza and Stuttgart; Elisabetta in Roberto Devereux in Bergamo), from 2005 she starts an always increasing frequentation with Verdi: Alice in Falstaff (Sassari and Cosenza), Lady in Macbeth at Teatro Comunale in Bologna conducted by M° Daniele Gatti directed by Misha Van Hoecke and at Filarmonico in Verona with Leo Nucci directed by Liliana Cavani, I due Foscari (Lucrezia Contarini) in Piacenza opposite Renato Bruson, Aida at Arena Sferisterio in Macerata, in Seoul and in Tel Aviv with Israel Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by M° Zubin Mehta, Ernani at Theater St. Gallen, Oberto conte di San Bonifacio in Verona; as well as with Verismo: Maddalena in Giordano's Andrea Chénier at Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, at Teatro Massimo in Palermo, at Sferisterio in Macerata and at Zurich's Opernhaus conducted by Nello Santi, La Wally in Stuttgart, Rosaura in Mascagni's Le Maschere as well as Iris for Teatro Goldoni in Livorno in a new production directed by Federico Tiezzi.

In 2009 she had engagements as Madama Butterfly at Wiener Staatsoper and at Sferisterio in Macerata directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi (with dvd recording), her debut at La Scala in Milan with Pizzetti's L'assassinio nella cattedrale directed by Yannis Kokkos, Antonia in Les contes d'Hoffmann at the Zurich Opernhaus and, conducted by Emmanuel Villaume and directed by Nicolas Joel, at Teatro Regio in Turin, La voix humaine at the Festival de Opera in Tenerife,

Verdi's Messa da Requiem with Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana conducted by Donato Renzetti, Macbeth at the Bayerische Rundfunk in Munich and Otello with Orquesta Sinfonica de Oviedo conducted by Friederich Haider (both with cd recording) and a Gala with Placido Domingo in Tokyo.

Other recent engagements include Madame Butterfly at Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, conducted by Daniel Oren, at Teatro Regio in Turin, conducted by Pinchas Steinberg, and at the Operahouse in Copenhagen; Tosca at the Royal Opera in Stockholm; Aida at the Terme di Caracalla conducted by Daniel Oren for Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, Maddalena (Andrea Chenier) in the Royal Opera House Stockholm.

In the season 2012/13 Raffaella Angeletti performed Tosca in Kiel, Madame Butterfly in Palermo, Amelia (Un ballo in maschera) in Opera Las Palmas, Lady Macbeth in Trieste and Firenze, Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana) and Tosca in Terme di Caracalla in Roma.
