Biographie / biography

Jacques Delacôte was born in France. He studied at the Conservatoire Supérieure de Paris and with Prof. Hans Swarowsky at the Vienna Music Academy. In 1971 the talented young conductor was elected unanimously the first winner of the gold medal of the Dimitri-Mitropoulos-Contest in New York, which opened his way to an important international career. As an assistant of such famous music personalities like Leonard Bernstein and Darius Milhaud he earned valuable experiences.
1972 he gave guest performances in subscription concerts with the NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA. Since then he has performed as a guest conductor with the following orchestras: CLEVELAND ORCHESTRA, SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, LONDON PHILHARMONIC and ROYAL PHILHARMONIC, ENGLISH CHAMBER ORCHESTRA, ORCHESTRE DE PARIS and ORCHESTRE NATIONAL DE FRANCE, WIENER SYMPHONIKER, MONTREAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, ROYAL ORCHESTRA OF BELGIUM and DANISH ROYAL ORCHESTRA, SCOTTISH NATIONAL and SCOTTISH CHAMBER as well as ISRAEL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA.
In addition, Maestro Delacôte collaborates frequently with such important radio orchestras like BBC LONDON, RIAS BERLIN, SDR STUTTGART, SWF BADEN BADEN, WDR COLOGNE, BR MUNICH and MDR LEIPZIG.
Above that, Jacques Delacôte is an enthusiastic opera conductor. He stood at the desks of the VIENNA STATE OPERA, BAVARIAN STATE OPERA in MUNICH, the HAMBURG STATE OPERA, GERMAN OPERA BERLIN, STATE OPERA STUTTGART, SEMPEROPER DRESDEN, ROYAL OPERA HOUSE COVENT GARDEN as well as the ENGLISH NATIONAL OPERA in LONDON, the WELSH NATIONAL OPERA, the SCOTTISH OPERA, the OPÉRA DE PARIS, and as a guest at the opera houses of BRUSSELS, ZURICH, COPENHAGUE, CHICAGO, PITTSBURGH, MONTREAL, TORONTO, VENICE, the TEATRO COLÓN in BUENOS AIRES, the GRAN TEATRO DEL LICEU in BARCELONA as well as the ROYAL SWEDISH OPERA in STOCKHOLM.
Under the conducting of Jacques Delacôte, among others, the following recordings were made: La Traviata, Carmen live from the ROYAL OPERA HOUSE COVENT GARDEN; Romeo et Juliette, Hérodiade, Samson and Dalila live from the LICEU BARCELONA, Carmen live from EARLS COURT LONDON; Otello from the ROYAL OPERA HOUSE in the ALBERT HALL LONDON; José Carreras and Friends live from the ROYAL THEATRE DRURY LANE LONDON; French Opera Arias with José Carreras; Operatic Arias with Samuel Ramey as well as The Royal Philharmonic Collection (Bizet).
His coming engagements include: Aida and La Bohème (SEMPEROPER DRESDEN) in June, August and December 2007 as well as January 2008, and Carmen (NEW NATIONAL THEATRE TOKYO) in November and December 2007.
La Bohême and Turandot (SEMPEROPER DRESDEN), as well as a Gala Performance of Carmen at KARLSRUHE in 2008.
In 2009, Turandot (SEMPEROPER DRESDEN), a Gala Performance of André Chénier at KARLSRUHE, Madama Butterfly in Tokyo (TOKYO NIKIKAI OPERA FOUNDATION), and Concerts in Berlin (KONZERTHAUS BERLIN).
